Contact

There are two preferred modes of approaching the course staff for an initial description of the issue/problem/concern/observation/thought/etc.: email and Microsoft Teams forums. We will follow up on your email or Piazza forum note, and may schedule a meeting with you to resolve the issue.

For email: please send email to col100-staff@iitd.ac.in from your IITD email account (emails from external accounts will bounce on this email address). Please avoid sending emails to personal IDs of the instructors or TAs. All instructors and TAs are a part of the col100-staff@iitd email group and will receive all emails that you send to the group. Please see a nice set of guidelines on email etiquette by Prof. Amitabha Bagchi at the following link: http://www.cse.iitd.ac.in/~bagchi/general/email-etiquette.html.

Grading

The grading structure will be as follows:

Each weekly lab session is worth 0.5 marks. If a student misses a lab session (i.e., does not mark attendance for a session), he/she looses that 0.5 marks irrespective of whether they submitted the solution online or not. If a student attends a lab session, the marks are based on the automatic evaluation of the solutions submitted by the student.

There will be two lab tests, each worth 9 marks. If a student misses any lab test, they must submit a medical certificate. If the medical certificate is found satisfactory, we will hold a third lab re-test for all such students towards the latter part of the semester (after both lab tests), and the syllabus of the lab re-test would include everything covered till that point (so the syllabus will be more than the lab test that was missed). If a student misses the lab re-test too, the student will obtain a zero for that lab test. Please note that the lab re-test will be significantly harder than the lab-tests.

If a student misses an exam (mid-semester or end-semester), they must submit a medical certificate.

Exams

All exams will be closed-book and closed-notes. No mobile phones or laptops are permitted inside the examination hall.

Useful Platforms

Academic Integrity Code

Academic honesty is required in all your work. Verbal discussion of assignments is fine but looking at someone else's work and then doing your is not. You must do all written and programming assignments on your own, except where group work is explicitly authorised. If you use parts of a solution or code from other sources (such as Internet, other OSes, etc.), you should explicitly mention it in your submission. Letting your work become available or visible to others is also cheating. The first instance of cheating will straight-away invite an 'F' grade in the course and a referral to the disciplinary committee.
